What Your Momma Didn’t Tell You
December 3, 2008While walking in the hallway of my high school I was exchanging high fives with freshies, teasing girls, messing around with with the boys, having a short chat with the juniors. Well that was when I was senior year. That was one of the best years of my life. Talk to everyone and you are a rockstar…
But the three years before that..haha..the exact opposite. I wasn’t really that talkative (kahit ngayon din naman.LOL). But then I realize this is the part of my life that has to be handled. Approaching strangers? My dad has long mastered that skill. LOL.
Your momma probably warned you when you were a kid “dont talk to strangers”. Very true indeed but get this…talking to strangers…will change your life.
I only learned about that when I started talking.
WHAT TO SAY
Simple. Comment on something. Or just say “Hi.”
HOW TO SAY IT
Be confident. Body language comprises 90% of the communication you make, the rest is whatever that goes out of your mouth.
THE BAD, THE UGLY
In the event of rejection. Just cry and mope around!! LOL. No matter how you crashed and burned, it has nothing to do with you as a person, she could be in a bad mood or she’s on her period or maybe she doesn’t really have that glam personality you were expecting at least now you already know that she not “that” girl. Move on…NEXT PLS!
If youre going to appoach strangers. You’ll get a lot of rejections. But then, you can only learn so much by failing. Be detached to the outcome and just have fun.Sebastien Foucan said - “The journey is more important than the goal”.
WHY BOTHER?
Let see what happened yesterday.
9am. Bus to Philcoa.
I sat beside a chinita, long hair and cute. I was at the aisle seat.
Girl started grooming hair (indicator of interest), placed her stuff at the floor (some groceries).
I paid bus tix.
No Conversation.
Window was half open. She was trying to open the window. I helped her.
My hands full of dust. I try looking for a tissue.
She suprisingly took out a couple of tissues.
crush: laging handa ah
girl: laugh.
crush: may basurahan ka rin?
girl: laugh. (light punch in my arm)
I tried throwing the tissue at her groceries
girl: wag dyan..dyan na sa sahig
No Conversation
The breeze from the window is blowing the slit of her top, she now tries to cover it.
crush: bakit mo tinapakpan damit mo? wag ka mag-alala bakla ako.
girl: soft laugh. ah wala, mahangin kasi
crush: alam mo…(BAM! I’m in).
I got her number in the end…
Next 1pm. Makati City.
barker: naghahanap ka ba taxi boss?
crush: hindi
barker: gusto mo ihanap kita?
barker: oo, calapan. taga san ho kayo?
crush: mindoro
barker: ano apelyido nyo?
crush: de castro
barker: (smiling)
crush: alam mo ganito hanap mo ko ng bus malabo mata ko bigyan kitang lima. Ayala Ibabaw ah
barker: (biglang naghanap ng bus.LOL)
Last. 9pm. Going to Embassy, The Fort.
crush: anong building to? (newly built)
driver: sa isang call center po yan.
crush: dami nang call center dito ah.
driver: meron nga din po sa kabila.
crush: okay yung pagpapatakbo ni binay sa makati..ewan na lang natin sa national gov’t na. tatakbo daw sya eh
driver: taga makati po ako actually..(his opinion)
crush: kung pagbabasehan performance nya sa makati…(my opinion)
Politics has always been my template convo with taxi drivers. A long drive can be like just a few minutes away bcoz they will always have a lot to say.
Those were strangers and I was having fun talking, all fluff talk. The feeling of connecting and relating to people is liberating. Whenever i talk to people, I actually feel alive.
But don’t take my word for it. You might get rejected..brutally. Experience it yourself and it will definitely change your life.
Trust me, they don’t bite.
